The Schleswig Leader
Juliane (Harenberg) Clausen
The death last Saturday afternoon, January 21, 1922, at 5:40, of Mrs. Fredrick
Clausen, removes another one of the pioneer ladies of this vicinity. Her
was due to the infirmities of old age, she having reached the ripe age of nearly
81 years when death stepped into claim her. Her illness was only of a
short duration and death was peaceful. Mrs. Clausen was a kind old lady,
well liked and loved by all who knew her, for her kindly manners and
disposition, and her earnest desire at all times to do good to those about her.
Her death will therefore be mourned by a wide circle of friends.
Juliane Friederica Elisabeth Harenberg was born June 19, 1841, at Insle Fehmarn,
Germany. She was married there in 1862 to Fredrich Clausen, who preceded
her to the great beyond in 1905 in Germany. To this union 15 children were
born, 8 of whom died in infancy, one son Paul died at Charter Oak, Iowa, in
1914.
In 1908, three years after the death of her husband, she came to this country to
make her home here with her children. Most of her time was spent with her
daughter Luise, Mrs. Johannes Riessen at Charter Oak. About two months ago
she came to Schleswig to spend the winter with her daughter, Catherine Gottburg,
and at whose home death claimed her.
She leaves to mourn her death 6 children, namely: Jochim of Midway, Iowa,
Christian and Andreas of Schleswig, Iowa, Daniel of Ricketts, Luise Riessen of
Charter Oak, and Mrs. Claus Gottburg of this city. Also 31 grandchildren
and 4 great grandchildren.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, short services being held at the home,
after which the remains were taken to Friedens Church, Rev. Wetzler having
charge, and the remains laid to rest in Morgan Township Cemetery.
The children of this good mother will have the sympathy of all in their
affliction.
