CLAUS MAASS DIES SUDDENLY

Wholly unexpected, death due to heart failure this afternoon removed Claus Maass from the midst of his family and assoicates.  Absent from his home only a short while his wife wondering as to his whereabouts made a search for the husband and found the lifeless body in a wood shed close by.  From all appearances death had overtaken the man while seated on a chair in the building and upon opening the door the body lunged forward.  A physician was summond and the examination evidenced death following heart failure.

In reviewing the biography of the deceased we learn that he was born at Landkirchen on the Isle of Fehmarn, March 4, 1865.  On his 16th birthday Mr. Maass embarked for this country and took up his abode at Denison, Iowa, where he was employed on the farm until 1890 when he came to Randolf, Nebr.  After a period of two years, he went on his way to the Bloomfield settlement which was attracting many to that vicinity and after a short wedded life, death on Dec. 4, 1898 overtook his first wife.  In the following year Mr. Maass married Magdalena Bargholz who, with the one daughter Emma, were living at his home at the time of his death.  After retiring from the farm the now deceased moved to Bloomfield where he resided 15 years, and leaving there he lived at Schleswig, Iowa, until 1924 when he moved to Osmond.  Mr. Maass was a retiring nature and life's struggles left him in an indifferent mood.  Life's fortunes were not his lot but honest dealings were a trait of his character.  Mrs. Maass states that at various t
Besided the brothers Henry and John Maass who reside on the farm east of Osmond and the widow and daughter aformentioned there surviving the step-daughter Mr. A. G. Mumro of Sioux City.

Arrangements for the burial were made today according to which services will be held at the Maass home on Friday afternoon at 1:00pm., Rev. Holstein officiating wereupon the body will be laid to rest by the side of his wife who proceeded him in death many years ago in the Bloomfield cemetery
